As the sun began to set it was the sign that the 2015 Kansas Dirt Oval Championship was about to come to an end. With the day starting early Mother Nature tried to pull her usual tricks with a rain shower but the CFR track crew was a step ahead of her with the track tarped and ready for her sneak attack. After a short delay the track crew went to work prepping the track for a FUN day of racing.

With 51 racers totaling 115 entries there were some veterans of the track and some first timers trying to find out for themselves what CFR is all about. The action on the track was just as hot as the temperature which the KDOC is traditionally known for. There were a lot of smiles and laughter through out the day. Basically just great racing, friendships rekindled and new friendships made. Thats the main goal of CFR and the Kansas Dirt Slingers club, FUN and FRIENDSHIP.

We would like to thank Robart MFG/Zap for being the primary sponsor of this years KDOC and for suppling the goodie bags with there products for all the racers. We also want to thank Kicker, Custom Works, Associated, AKA, Hobbico, Panther Racing and McAllister for suppling the door prizes that were given away.

We would like to thank everyone that took the time out of their busy summer schedules to attend this years race. We know there are plenty of race tracks to attend throughout the summer and you chose to battle the heat on and off the track at what we think is the greatest show in Kansas. Congratulations to all winners. Thank you to all the Kansas Dirt Slinger members. You all pitched in wherever needed to help make the race a huge success.

Lastly we would like to congratulate John Dempsey on his induction into the clubs Hall of Fame. John has been here since the beginning of the track when he, Donna and myself moved the first dirt and continues to tell me he’s not going anywhere. Once again thank you all and we hope to see you at the track soon.

Racers gathered on another hot and humid day in anticipation of the running of the SDOC 2015. The track was prepped and looked fast….extremely fast as the clouds were slowly rolling in. In the back of everyone’s mind was the big question…..was Mother Nature going to be nice?

Qualifying was rolling along nicely and the mains began. Wait!!! What is this?
About a 3 minute hard rain brought out our “Air Titan” Leaf Blower to try and dry the track. To no avail Mother Nature begin laughing at us and the “monsoon” arrived.

For the first time in track history we had to award trophies to some classes on qualifying. I hated to do it but in my mind it was the only fair thing to do. There is no way I could make sure everyone could be back in 2 weeks.

A big thank you to everyone that came out and we hope you all had a good time. To Matt Gorman who has supported the track, club and this race by supplying the trophies for many years and actually saw no return from it we thank you. To Kimbrough, McAllister, Hobby Haven and Kicker for supplying door prizes we thank you.

Racing continues in 2 weeks and we hope to see you all at the track then.

We would like to thank everyone that made it out today. It was great seeing everyone and great to see everyone knocking the rust off. Looking forward to getting the race season started in 2 weeks. We want to thank those that stayed after we quit and helped on the track. The new dirt came in nicely. We were able to rework the track, pick rocks and finished getting the infield pipe and whisker markers down. We were then treated to a B-2 Bomber flyover as we were wrapping up.

Once again thank you all and we hope to see you at the track as we begin our racing season on May 17, 2015.

What a Fun day of racing at CFR. We had the kids Trick or Treating the pits and everyone just having a good time as we closed out the race season for 2014. Things were normal during the qualifying round and then we threw something a little different in for the mains. The pumpkin painted disc blades that were placed by the bottom 5 qualifiers sure made things interesting. The Havoc 100 Figure 8 team race was a hoot. When it was all done everyone was laughing and having a great time and that’s what it’s all about.

We want to thank everyone for a great season and hope we see you again next year for season #12. Until then we hope we see you at a track somewhere this winter. We will get the 2015 rules posted soon.

On September 21st we closed out our 11th season here at Checkered Flag. The day was full of great racing as the old track came in real nice once again. Thank you to all that helped out all season long. We had a lot of great racing and more importantly having FUN. Congrats to all the winners.

We also crowned our Season Champions for 2014 and we congratulate all of them. Congratulations to John Dempsey, this years Jim Rupard Rising Star Award winner. Johns racing improved greatly this season and more importantly he brings his let’s have fun attitude to the track every race. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and hope you support them whenever possible. Without them we wouldn’t have the facility and prizes to share with you racers.

We would like to thank all the club members for speaking up during the club meeting as we made some rules changes for next season. There was great discussion and we think the rules we voted on will make our program and racing better next year. We will keep you updated on the race format and hopefully we will all understand it by the time the season starts.

As we wrap this up we want to thank all of you that have supported the track and club over the years. We’re not going to name anyone because we know we’ll forget someone. So if you have helped out in any way or raced here we thank you.

This all started as a dream 11 years ago and we never thought it would grow like it has. Thank you all once again. It brings us great joy to see everyone having Fun. We encourage everyone to support all of the tracks in the area so we can keep our hobby strong. Just remember to have FUN. If everyone gets 1 new racer into our hobby, it will go on forever. What a awesome day of racing. A big thank you to everyone that came out to show your support for the veterans. Like was said at the track, we did a great thing and you all should be proud. These men and women put their lives on the line so we can enjoy the freedom we have. It makes me proud to be an American.

We were able to raise $580.00 and we received a additional donation of $500.00 for a grand total of $1080.00. That is absolutely awesome. A big thank you to Greg and Susan Carrick of Carrick Electric for donating the trophies for the event. They definitely were fitting for the event. To the men of the VFW that came and presented the flags we thank you and thank you for your service.

Congratulations to all the winners of the races and the door prizes. We hope you had a great time and once again, be a Proud American because we did do a great thing.

It was another Fun day at Checkered Flag today. We had 53 entries who braved the heat to race and celebrate Donna’s birthday today. Mother Nature couldn’t stop us with her 100+ heat index today. We were able to keep the moisture in the track and it stayed great all day.

Today we also welcomed Elmo Shirk our 2014 Inductee into the Kansas Dirt Slingers Hall of Fame. Elmo is a great asset to the club and has become a good friend to all. In talking to Elmo after the races he told me he figured he had driven approximately 18000 mile to race with us over the last 6 or 7 years. All we can say Elmo is were glad you decided to join us and you are truly deserving of this award.

We would like to congratulate all the winners of the races and our door prizes. We hope you all enjoy the holiday weekend next week and join us on Sept. 4th for Open Practice and on Sept. 7th for our Racing For Heroes Benefit Race. We have some very cool trophies for this race and all entry fee money will be donated to the VFW to help support Veterans in need of assistance.

Once again Thank you all for your support and we hope to see you at the track.
